DERMAPLANING

Our spa style dermaplaning treatment offers a luxury experience with extraordinary results. Dermaplaning is a great alternative to microdermabrasion and is a simple and safe procedure for cell renewal and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). This is a great treatment for clients who have sensitive skin or are pregnant or nursing and who want a deep exfoliation, but are not allowed to use peeling agents on their skin. There is a common misconception that treatments like this will cause the hair to grow back more densely and darker. This is not the case.  As long as the hair is superficial vellus hair, it will grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment.

DERMAPLANING FAQ'S

WHAT IS DERMAPLANING?

Dermaplaning is a procedure in which a blade  is used to remove dead skin cells and vellus hair (peach fuzz). This exfoliation process is used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scars, sun damage and pore size, clear up blackheads and balance complexion as well as remove peach fuzz. Dermaplaning also boosts collagen production and helps to firm and tone your skin. Each dermaplaning service at PBB includes and enzyme peel, extractions, and a mask.

I HEARD ITS ALSO CALLED A MICROPEEL? IS IT REALLY A PEEL?

Well, we are manually "peeling" the skin so it is a light peel, but you will not see any peeling afterward.  So there is no downtime.   It is called a "micropeel" if you ask us to apply a lactic/glycolic peel or enzyme peel after dermaplaning.

Every dermaplaning treatment at PBB includes an enzyme peel and is considered a "micropeel."

HOW DO YOU DO IT?

The skin is first cleansed and dried, then your aesthetician places the scalpel at a slight angle and passes over the skin several times in a smooth motion, removing dead skin cells and vellus hair.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DERMAPLANING?

It helps the skin look and feel smoother and brighter, and your products will penetrate better making them more effective.  it is especially good for people who have a lot of red in their skin as it does not break delicate capillaries like microdermabrasion.  We encourage our clients to get dermaplaning  a couple days prior to any special event because the skin is much smoother and make-up sets nicely because we remove the vellus hair and dead skin cells from the face.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

When it comes to dermaplaning, one treatment will provide instant results. Once a month is recommended for the best results.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAKE SURE THE INSTRUMENTS ARE SANITIZED?

We use a new blade for each patient and soak handles in Barbacide before each client, then washed with antibactierial soap then sterilized with a UV sterilizer.  Your technician will also wear gloves while performing the service.

WILL THERE BE ANY DOWNTIME?

No, its a great maintenece procedure for busy lifestyles.  You can apply makeup afterwards, we just recommend that you cleanse your makeup brushes before you apply.

YOU USE A SCALPEL? DOES IT HURT?

Not at all! The client feels a mild scraping. If someone is very sensitive, the esthetician will adjust and use a lighter touch.  We always ask for feedback and encourage communication.
